The Gods are not the only sage ones...
What I found interesting when writing my essay on The Importance of Being Earnest and The Good Person of Szechwan is the similarity in the prevalence of aphoristic statements or lines throughout both plays. Although those in The Importance of Being Earnest are very quotable, and as we learned in class it is famous for that, those in The Good Person of Szechwan are much more proverbial. But I found myself attracted to them nonetheless. I think the gods have something to do with it when they come to this universe to try to prove that there is at least one good person, but Brecht sprinkles them throughout the play, as does Wilde in his play. I wondered if anyone else noticed this and had any ideas about if there are any relationships or conclusions we can draw on this idea.
